CUSTOM NURSERY PROPAGATION

The North Coast Seed Bank provides wild seeds for reclamation, conservation, and home use.
Freshwater Farms and North Coast Seed Bank maintain a year round diversity of common native wetland and riparian plant species. We provide plant material in the form of pure live seed, bare root plants, and customized containers. Location,
Location, Location

Our location provides us with an intermingling of two species-rich bioregions, ideal for maximum diversity of plant species - North and South. Many species commonly found in Alaska and Baja California are at their southern and northern extent respectively in Northern California.

Native Willow Orchard
Our propagation nursery features a large native willow orchard. The orchard contains hardy, fast growing, disease-resistant selections of six common species developed by the Soil Conservation Service Plant Material Center in Corvallis, Oregon. The six species represent vigorous ecotypes throughout the Pacific Northwest and California. In fact, all our bare root wetland species are selected from hardy site specific seed or root stock.
Planning Considerations
The most common planting times are spring and fall. However, due to our temperate coastal weather, we can provide plants year-round. If you need containers, plugs or bare-root plants for spring planting, it is best to order by fall; and for fall planting, it is best to order by spring. If you need native seed for use in the fall or spring, order by the previous summer.

Contract Growing
At Freshwater Farms, we are pleased to accept orders for custom plantings to be grown to specifications and delivered up to a year or more in the future. If you are planning a big project, it is best to contact us at least six months to a year in advance of planting to assure meeting your plant requirements. With advance notice, we can deliver to you quality native plants in prime condition. We feel this is the best way to guarantee that our customers get what they want, when they want it at the fairest price possible. If you would like more information about Contract Growing for your specific project, or would like information for future projects, contact Sarah Walker or Faith Jackson at our nursery. They will be happy to work with you to set up the best schedule for your needs.
